  5. J.J. Cales seventh album finally available on heavy duty gram vinyl. GRASSHOPPER took Cales solid stripped-down country rock one step further into the 80s with infectious tracks like "City Girls" and "Nobody But You"/5(64).
  6. It's a great album. If you're into blues or country rock, or want to find out who influenced many of the great modern Blues & Rock artists of today then here's your man. I highly recommend checking JJ Cale out. I bought this on cd, I've got it on vinyl too, in my loft somewhere. Huge fan of this guy. Always/5(64).
  7. J.J. Cale drifts toward a more pop approach on this album, starting with the lead-off track, "City Girls," which could almost but not quite be a hit single. The usual blues and country shuffle approach is in effect, but Audie Ashworth's production is unusually sharp, the playing has more bite than usual, and Cale, whose vocals are for the most part up in the mix, sounds more engaged.
  8. The seventh album of revered J.J. Cale, Grasshopper () continues where he left off with his previous album Shades: tight, stripped-down country rock but with an increased energy level. Some even call the album Pop, which isn't so strange when listening to songs like "City Girls" and "Nobody But You" (the latter which incorporates an amazingly infectious horn section).
  9. In his AllMusic review of the LP, William Ruhlmann notes, "J.J. Cale drifts toward a more pop approach on this album, starting with the lead-off track, ‘City Girls,’ which could almost but not quite be a hit single. The usual blues and country shuffle approach is in effect, but Audie Ashworth's production is unusually sharp, the playing has.
